Solawi Stralsund

Hello, we are Katy and Ingo and we run a farm with approx. 1.5 ha of land according to the idea of “Solidarity Agriculture” (SoLaWi / CSA) in the market garden system.

We are currently entering our sixth year of cultivation and want to supply 65 harvesting partners, a restaurant and our farm store with fruit and vegetables during this period. We grow around 50 different types of seasonal fruit and vegetables, offer educational programs for schools and live with our three children (aged 11, 9 and 7) and our animals (dogs, pot-bellied pigs, cats and chickens) on our small farm with farmland around it. It is located in the village of Duvendiek, not far from the picturesque island of Rügen and the beautiful Baltic Sea beach Fischland Darss / Zingst (approx. 30 minutes to the Baltic Sea and 10 minutes to the Bodden).

If you love nature and animals, would like to get to know gardening and can lend a hand, you are cordially invited to drop by. We usually work outdoors and are sometimes active in the rain and wind. If that doesn't bother you and you enjoy being out in nature, sometimes working alone or as part of a team, then that would suit us.

If you perhaps even like African drumming or like to speak Spanish or would like to learn these things, we would be delighted.

How does a Community Solidary Agriculture actually work?

The concept is fairly simple: a farm or market garden supplies a group of people in the local area with food. In return, the group provides the necessary resources for food production. Everyone involved shares the harvest and the responsibility. A farm regularly supplies a fixed group of consumers with food.
Consumers sign a contract for a marketing year and pay a monthly contribution. Consumers can take part in work assignments or crop planning, for example.
It is quite quiet in our village, but there are often lots of interesting people around the farm for hands-on days and harvest pick-ups. Other helpers also stop by for a while.

A stay with us is possible for 3 to 8 months (at least 12 weeks) from March to October.

The accommodation is in a small house on the property. You can get a bicycle from us, for which no deposit is required. We cook and eat lunch together from Wedesday to Friday. The rest of the meals can be prepared in your own kitchen.

It is quiet in our village, but there are often lots of interesting people around the farm for hands-on days and harvest pick-ups. Other volunteers also stop by for a while. We cooperate with another ESC hosting organisation nearby in Rambin and try to organize exchanges with other ESC volunteers.

We look forward to receiving your application
