New ESC hosting opportunity in Greifswald

The Protestant Church of St. Jacobi in Greifswald is offering a new position in the European Solidarity Corps with the project “Remember and Live”. We are looking for a volunteer from Israel for a volunteer position from the beginning of May. Please spread the word! :-)

Remember and Live” – A Encounter Project for Young People with Jewish life

The project “Remember and Live” in Greifswald has been in existence since July 2024 and aims to prevent anti-Semitism. For young people aged 13 to 21, extracurricular project days, excursions, and workshops are organized, addressing various facets of Jewish life in both its past and present. A special focus is placed on the Jewish cemetery in Greifswald. This place is to be explored, and as part of the event series, the young people will create a memorial plaque and a website.

The organization of events and networking with other foundations, social institutions, and organizations is of great importance for the project. Additionally, the project seeks to engage with young people in various locations to present and promote the initiative.

The project is related to the St. Jacobi Church Community in Greifswald. In addition to the project work, regular youth and children’s events take place in the church community, which can be supported by the volunteer.

We are looking for a volunteer from May until the end of November 2025.

Accommodation, Food, and Transport

Your accommodation in Greifswald will be in a shared flat with other volunteers or students, or in a host family. You will have your own room. A ticket for local public transport will be provided. Your meals and pocket money will be fully covered (approx. 520€/month), and you are responsible for your own food arrangements. Please check the FAQ page for more details about the project organizational details.

Training during the Activity

During your stay in Germany, you will participate in a language course or have the opportunity to study German by yourself. Additionally, there will be seminars to connect you with other volunteers from across Germany.

Participant Profile

We are looking for a volunteer from Israel. The reason for this is that exchange about Jewish life in Greifswald is challenging, as there are primarily historical traces of this religion. If you have contact with Judaism or even belong to this religion yourself, that would bring exciting new perspectives to the project. A general interest in the topic would be important. You are welcome to contribute your knowledge and interests to the project. If you already have experience working with children and young people, please include this in your application. If you have any questions, feel free to contact erinnern-und-leben@pek.de.
