Positions for an ESC abroad typically begin in the summer (August–September). Some placements also offer flexible start dates. You can find all the information in the overview of available placements.

Your volunteer year with an ESC opportunity abroad typically lasts 6–12 months. Please check the overview to see which placements are available for which time periods. Some projects last only 2 months.

To participate in the European Voluntary Service, you must be at least 18 years old.

For participation in the European Solidarity Corps the maximum age is 30 years.

During your ESC volunteer service abroad, you will have one or two seminar weeks. The "on-arrival training" takes place a few weeks after your arrival. There, you will meet other international volunteers who are doing their volunteer service in the same country.

If your volunteer service lasts longer than 6 months, there is a second seminar: the midterm meeting.

In the European Solidarity Corps, you receive a fixed daily allowance. The amount varies by country (€5–€8 per day). You also receive money for meals.

As a general rule, when it comes to applying for and organizing volunteer service, the earlier, the better! Positions are filled on an ongoing basis as soon as suitable applications are received by the host organizations.
