Call for a volunteer in Greifswald, Germany for a short term mobility (2 months) within the programme European Solidarity Corps

Duration: 01. March 2023 until 28. April 2023

We are looking for a French volunteer to join the local fair trade shop „Weltladen“ and support the French speaking and afterschool activities of „Arndtschule“.

Sale of fair products and educational work on fair trade

The team at "Weltladen“, the fair trade shop in Greifswald, works to raise awareness of unjust world market structures through the sale of fair trade goods and, at the same time, to create an alternative to conventional trade practices. With the help of accompanying educational and project work, the Weltladen promotes solidarity with people living in disadvantaged or livelihood-threatening conditions around the world. As a volunteer work you will gain solid background knowledge about products, importers and other actors of Fair Trade in comparison to conventional trade structures.

Insight into German educational work

„Arndtschule“ is a local school for around 400 pupils from grade 5 to 10 (age 10-16 years). As a volunteer you have the opportunity to join the elective French classes, learn how French is being taught in Germany, and support the pupils through the experience of speaking to a native speaker. Moreover, the various afterschool activities (e.g. sport clubs, crafting, language learning) look forward to your support and ideas.

Examples of possible tasks:

  • support daily work in the fair trade shop (e.g. sorting and selling goods)
  • press and public relations work at Weltladen (especially Instagram)
  • development of Weltladen’s educational work (e.g. organizing an exhibition); focus during the duration of your stay is on the newly established EU supply chain law and the comparison between the French, German and British equivalents
  • join Arndtschule’s French classes with conversation exercises
  • join and/or offer afterschool activities at Arntdschule (e.g. sport or language activities, crafts,...)

You are:

  • an open-minded and curious person
  • communicative and have the desire to work with different people of different ages
  • proactive and have the ability to work independently and take initiative
  • interested in the topic of fair trade and alternative economical structures
  • willing to support our work in the mentioned areas
  • able to understand and speak German (at least a little bit :-))

Then we are looking for you!

To apply, please send a motivational letter (max. 1 page) and a (very short) CV to Becki (BeckiMoebius@web.de) and Luise (duda@arndtschule.de) answering the following questions:

  •  Why do you want to be a volunteer at Weltladen and Arndtschule?
  •  What do you hope or expect to learn?
  •  What do you think you will contribute to the team?
  •  What are your hobbies and other topics of interest?

Deadline for application: 10th January 2023
In addition to your daily tasks at Weltladen and Arndtschule you will be able to join a local community of volunteers from many countries in many different hosting placements. Find out more about the other placements and volunteer life in Greifswald on www.turbina-pomerania.org
